How to have fun at your family photoshoot!

Meet this adorable family!

This is the second time I had the opportunity to photograph this adorable family of four from Lemont! The ‘M Family’ are so incredibly loving with one another and my cheeks hurt from smiling after our session together. We had a beautiful night for our session. The temperature was a gorgeous 75 degrees, the sun was shining just right through the trees, and the flowers were just starting to bloom.

This shoot was located at one of my favorite spots near Frankfort, Illinois. I absolutely love this preserve and visit it often for my outdoor sessions. Nicely mowed pathways make it easy to navigate and the field has the most beautiful long grasses for families to sit in. Check out a recent engagement session in this same location!

4 tips on how to have a fun family photoshoot!

1. Hands down the most IMPORTANT thing to remember during your family photoshoot is to ENJOY your time with one another. Emotions and connection show in photographs. If you are truly having a fun and enjoyable time with one another I will capture dreamy images. Upon arriving, I always remind the family to relax, breathe, and just have a lovely and memorable evening with one another.
2. Laugh, tickle, play ‘hug-tag’, tell stories, wrestle, toss your kids in the air, tip them upside down, play ‘super-man’, twirl, and dance. These are just a FEW of the fun activities we do to make your family session fun.
3. Movement is always welcome! I love when parents take walks and cuddle which allows me to capture adorable and candid photos of you and your family. This allows your kids to explore which always helps them loosen up and have fun during sessions.
4. Bring an activity to do as a family! I love documenting real life things families do together. Fly a kite, go fishing, cuddle by a patio fire, take a walk through the preserve, chase fireflies, blow bubbles, etc. There are SO many fun things to keep your kids interested in the session without making it feel like a photoshoot!
