A moment to remember

Sometimes I witness a moment that is impossible to recreate.  A moment that quickly unfolds and then it’s over.  I was lucky enough to capture one of these moments at a recent newborn session.  Unprompted, Grandma guided this newborn’s big sister by placing her hands on the baby.  I quickly snapped this image before she moved her hand away.  I knew that it would be one of my favorites from the session, but I had no idea it would move me in such a way and actually bring me to tears.  This is a moment that is so beautiful and would have otherwise been forgotten.

Welcome baby E!

I’m so happy for my friend Kristen as she celebrates the birth of her second child, baby E!  I have known Kristen since high school and it’s so nice to have kept in touch all of these years.  I photographed her daughter as a newborn and baby and I am thrilled that she is a big sister now!

Newborn Photography

Newborn photography has always had a special place in my heart.  Newborns are a world of possibility and I just love having the opportunity to document how incredibly special they really are.  Newborn sessions take place at my Homer Glen, IL newborn photography studio while baby is between 7-17 days old.  I am inspired by every newborn that comes into my studio and they dictate how they want to be posed throughout the session.  Some babies tend to curl up with their legs and feet close to their hearts, and others prefer to be swaddled and stretched out.  I allow them the freedom to decide on how they want to be positioned and gently guide them with simple wraps and blankets.

This image was captured just moments after I swaddled him and put him on my bean bag.  I was planning on soothing him to sleep and fixing his blanket, however a beautiful sun beam above his head appeared and I decided to start the session right then and there.   

Oh, that smile! 

I love documenting how large these pacifiers look when baby is only a few days old.  

Almost five years ago, at their daughter’s newborn session, I took a black and white photograph of dad holding this baby.  They asked if we could recreate that pose for this new baby.  Such a precious moment.
