Welcome to my Lady Boss Series! I am thrilled you are here and ready to learn about another amazing and local lady boss! This series actually started years ago when I began a fun ‘momepreneur group’ on Facebook. I invited local Chicago business women to share their thoughts and ideas on running a business and manage their home. I had no idea the amazing response I would receive from fellow career women and decided to use this little corner of the web to share these amazing businesses, products, and services geared towards parenting, newborns, pregnancy, babies, childhood, families, and more!
Every week, here on my blog, I will be featuring inspiring MOM BOSSES, LADY BOSSES and WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS that offer products and services catered towards fellow parents, mamas, families, new dads, etc! These blog features are going to be a great resource for new parents and include different services and vendors ranging from local doulas and postpartum care to nursery designers, clothing lines, and online baby products! And, in case you missed the last chapter in my Lady Boss Series, check it out!
I am thrilled to be sharing this weeks Lady/ Mom Boss and I am absolutely certain that women will love her services! This week, my Lady Boss Series will be featuring K Pilates Studio with Kristen Riley which is an amazing service offered in Palos Park, Illinois! I met Kristen years ago when she contacted me to photograph her lovely family and we have kept in touch ever since! Kristen is so motivating and inspiring which is why I just HAD to include her in this series.
When did you start this business? Share your story on how you began.
I fell in love with Pilates in 2011 after the birth of my first child. I left my job in medical sales to be a full time mom and began doing Pilates to try to “get my body back”. I fit it in late at night, when my husband got home from work, just once a week at first. I saw such a transformation in the shape of my body in just 6 months, doing what seemed like minimal effort (compared to some of the other popular workouts out there). I began doing classes more often and started mentoring with my instructor. I taught classes in her studio basically to support my own Pilates addiction.
When I was 7 months pregnant with my second child my instructor had to relocate and offered the business to me. I made the seemingly scary decision at the time, in the delivery room with my husband by my side. I completed my training in the months after my daughter was born and I opened my studio in the attic space over the garage of my parents home 4 months later.
I worked every hour I could get a body in the door, sometimes teaching as many as 10 classes in a day, but I loved it. It really is true what they say about loving what you do for work and never feeling like you’ve worked a day in your life.
Describe the services you offer and why they would benefit new moms/ women.
Pilates is for everyone. It can be modified to accommodate any body, any age, and at any stage. Doing Pilates throughout my second and third pregnancy was the best thing I could’ve done for my body and I’d recommend it to anyone thinking of having a baby or with a baby newly on board! It’s low impact and involves strengthening your whole body with a concentration on core and pelvic floor.
If you’ve already had your babies, and you’re a busy mom struggling to fit it all in, pilates is for you too! With only a 50 minute workout consistently done 1 time a week, you will begin to see and feel results within the first month. Joseph Pilates said, “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference. In 20 sessions you’ll see the difference. In 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body.” He wasn’t lying.
Whether you’re fit and just looking for something new, you’re training for a marathon or you just want to keep up with your little kids, we can help you achieve your goal. Maybe you haven’t worked out in years, you’ve injured joints or you’re plagued with back pain, we can help you get back to feeling good again. Pilates is for everyone.

How do you keep yourself organized as things get busier and busier?
This is definitely something that is a constant struggle. With 3 kids under 6 and a full time business to run it’s a balance that doesn’t happen effortlessly. I’ve learned to ask for help. To not try to do it all myself. I’m lucky to work with a great instructor that helps me keep it all together at the studio and great nanny that helps me keep the house afloat. I also couldn’t do it without the help of my husband Jason. He does it all, from my studio renovations and accounting, to bath and bedtime stories when I teach late classes.
Do you have the mom boss thing down ? How do you find the balance between motherhood and running a business?
I don’t think I’ll ever have it down, LOL. I just live in each day and try to plan for the next if I get a free minute. I feel very lucky to have the work/home environment that I do. My parents allowed us to buy their home and move my family into “my studio”.
I get to wake up and literally walk upstairs to work in the morning. I can see the school bus arrive in the afternoon from my studio window, I can pop downstairs during my lunch break and eat with the kids, and at the end of the day I’m already home and able to tuck the kids in at night. I really feel grateful to have the best of both worlds.
