This year has been all about finding the light in things. Whether it be the perfect angle, that catches the green speck in a little girls’ eye, or just finding the warmth in the simple things. This year, has been one filled with so many challenges, and the light is the only thing getting any of us through it.
The K family, is a concrete example of light as a verb. A perpetual and constant feeling. One that only requires the action of their family. The laughing, the twirling, the playing. R & V are filled with wonder and joy. And the bounce in their laughter is enough to keep you warm, even through the coldest days.
It’s easy to see how they’ve developed such a knack for the joy they create. Their mom has shown them how to appreciate every failed pose, or grass stained dress. She has taught them to find the fun in the realness of play, instead of the stillness in a posed shoot. She has taught them to love the sun and wildflowers, the scraped knees, and every imperfect thing, that makes up a gorgeous childhood. But most importantly, she has taught them to adore and appreciate one another.
And her commitment to documenting that through her annual photos has always stuck a sentimental cord with me. And when I shoot their sessions I always have one goal in mind, “I want them to HEAR this picture”. Because remembering these moments, the ones filled with warmth, laughter and sun is the stuff we all need more of.
This family is a constant reminder of how wonderful our world is, at its baseline. They always leave me with warmth, remembering how wondrous my own life is. Because witnessing and documenting this kind of inherent joy will do that to you. I hope you enjoy this session as much as I did, and I hope it helps you reflect on your own sources of light.
I love working with this family and watching these little girls grow every year. It has been an honor to be been chosen to document their stories. Take a peek at our last session together.
Goodness, what an amazing ‘outdoor photography season’ this was! For as strange and isolating as the beginning of this year was – the middle and end were nothing short of amazing. I was able to see so many of you and capture countless galleries of smiles and memories. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making 2020 one to remember! I am steadily adding some of my most favorite moments and sessions from this season on my blog. Check them out HERE!
It is NEVER too early to ‘get on the books’ for a session with me. My weekends typically 6-8 months in advance from August through October and weeknights for these months always fill early in the year. Oftentimes, spring and summer sessions are overlooked as nice months for sessions – but keep May through July in mind as well. Kiddos are off school – warmer temperatures – long green grasses and hidden spots with wildflowers!
My Homer Glen, IL studio is open all year and in studio sessions are a great option for winter months OR if you are looking for a clean and modern space to shoot in!! I welcome newborns, baby milestone, maternity, boudoir, engagement, and family sessions at the studio! Take a peek at my studio tour to see my work space!
