About the Artist

Hello and welcome to my blog.  Over the last few months I have gained quite a few followers on my social media networks as well as blog viewers and I wanted to say hi and introduce myself to those that haven’t met me!  I’m Laurie, the photographer behind Elle Baker Photography and Boudoir by Elle and I am a newborn, family, and boudoir photographer in the Chicago land area.  I have always considered myself a creative and for almost a decade, found my ‘happy place’ photographing babies and families.  I am always looking for new artistic outlets and a few years ago discovered a new love for fine art boudoir and beauty photography.  This led me to create a ‘sister company’ called Boudoir by Elle.

BUT if I’m here to introduce who I am , I must tell you about my children, husband, and family life.  I wouldn’t be WHO I am at all without them and couldn’t have done it without their support and unconditional love.

My Family

I have three kiddos.  My ten year old daughter Gwen who is incredibly stubborn and persistent but so kind and loving to everyone she meets.  My seven year old daughter Tess is outgoing and a bit sassy, but thoughtful and the bravest girl with the biggest heart.  And my son. OH my little Noah.  He is five and my little observer.  He is shy and gentle and the sweetest boy.  My husband is my rock.  He supports my ideas (and I have a whole lot of them) and stands by me always.  As a family, we love quiet evenings at home, watching movies, having game nights, and eating dinner together.  We love weekend activities including swimming, going to the movies, apple picking, hiking, fishing, and being outdoors.  And we LOVE beach vacations.  We look forward to get away weekends and enjoy spending quality time together any chance we get.

Life before photography

I have a degree in nutrition and dietetics and used my degree for a very short time after graduating.  During this time as a nutritionist I started to teach piano lessons in the evenings after work.  I was always drawn to the arts and my heart was pulled in that direction to teach piano.  I taught for 8 years and loved every second of it.  But again, my mind was always moving and as a creative I was always trying new things.  The art of photography was introduced to me about a decade ago and I found an intense calling to the world of baby photography.  I loved shooting my own daughter and she really was my inspiration at the time to be the best baby photographer.   I purchased my first DSLR camera in ’06 and I have never turned back.  I learned through online courses and workshops, reading countless books, finding a local mentor to answer my questions and offer critiques on my work, and a crazy drive to succeed.  I knew where I wanted to go in this industry. I had a vision of what I wanted my work to look like and I just went with it.

My heart as an artist is happy.

My Philosophy on Newborn, Baby, and Family Photography

I walk into every session with the mindset of wanting to capture your family having REAL MOMENTS.  I want to photograph the moments in between the ‘poses’ and I want you to feel something when you look through your gallery.  I am drawn to photographs that include movement, light, emotion, and connection and give direction throughout our session to evoke true moments.

I would love for you to say HI and reach out to me.  It would be a pleasure working with you.

I am now scheduling sessions January-April for maternity, newborns, baby milestone sessions, and family sessions.  Take a peek at my portfolio to see my style of photography and I hope to hear from you soon!
