The only thing more stunning than this Chicago, Illinois couple, was watching how smitten they are with their new little girl. It was so much fun working with this family and all the love that filled the room that day. I am drawn to lifestyle newborn photography as it allows me to capture authentic moments throughout the day. Standing back and capturing the scene in it’s entirety tells their story. Documenting mom comforting her baby and dad during a feeding were just a few of the moments in between. Take a peek below at some of my favorites during this lifestyle newborn photography session.
‘Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.’ ~D. Lange
My lifestyle newborn photography sessions offer both ‘gently posed’ newborn portraits as well as documentary style newborn photos. Between more ‘posed’ moments I was able to incorporate both parents into the scene to capture those in between lifestyle moments.
This beautiful baby was wrapped in the most beautiful lace knitted shawl blanket made by G.H. Hurt & Son. Mom mentioned that it was actually a gift from baby’s uncle in London. It’s the same blanket that Kate Middleton and Prince William used with their third child for his big reveal! According to a recent Cosmopolitan online article “The choice to wrap the newborn royal in a knitted shawl from this company is in keeping with a 70-year-old tradition started by the Queen following Prince Charles’ birth. Back in 1948, when the Queen and her husband Prince Philip presented Prince Charles to the world, they wrapped him in a G.H. Hurt & Sons blanket.” If you are interested in reading more about this sentimental blanket story, you can read that here. As if we had any doubt that this little girl was fit to be a princess, Uncle London solidified that with this wonderful and thoughtful touch.
This blanket is a reminder of ‘what to bring to a newborn session’. I always recommend to my clients that they bring an heirloom piece or special knit to incorporate into their session. I love bringing those same items back when baby comes in for their milestone sessions as well.
This mama chose the most beautiful floral dress for the session. It added such a beautiful tone and texture to the gallery and I am thrilled she chose this colorful piece. Dad chose a light gray button up which complimented the dress beautifully. I loved everything about this family’s look and I’m so excited she thought outside the box when choosing her dress!
