Lifestyle Newborn Photography | Homer Glen Newborn Photography Studio

Keep it simple babe.

Probably one of my favorite setups is that of just a newborn baby on a white blanket.  The simplicity of it all takes me to a place of calm and peace and showcases the baby as they are.  No props and gentle posing, capturing their beauty.  Something about this session just made my heart happy.  I have worked with this lovely Frankfort, Illinois family for a few years now and both parents step back gracefully and let me ‘do my thing’.  When I am allowed this ‘freedom’ as an artist, my sessions just come alive and I feel the most creative.  Thank you F family for allowing me to capture your beautiful baby in this lifestyle newborn photography session.  You can see more of this family from last years session here.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

This is a perfect example of what a lifestyle newborn photography session looks like at my Homer Glen studio.  The baby guided me throughout the entire session telling me where he preferred his legs, arms, and body.  He stretched and showed movement during his entire session which showed authenticity.  Newborns move, wiggle, grunt, yawn, and squirm which make this phase of babyhood so special.

In home newborn lifestyle photography sessions are also a wonderful option for those looking for a relaxed and more documentary style.  You can see one of my most recent lifestyle sessions in Downers Grove here.

Incorporating Siblings into a newborn session

This baby’s sister stepped in for just a few moments to cuddle with her baby brother.  As you can see by her little dimple hand, she is just a baby herself.   She spent the session playing with one of my baby dolls I have at the studio and wrapping her baby just like I was wrapping her baby brother.  It was the sweetest thing.

Commonly asked questions about newborn sessions

I am asked a slew of questions upon booking and chatting with my clients.  Here are just some of the most common questions that are asked!

When is the best time to book a session?

I recommend scheduling both your maternity and newborn session sometime in the second trimester.  Due to the ‘on call’ nature of these shoots, I can only take 4-5 newborns per month.  Maternity sessions are scheduled between 33-26 weeks along and newborn sessions are penciled in according to your due date.  You would then contact me the day of or after the baby is born to formally reserve the exact date and time of the session.

How ‘old’ is too old for a newborn session?

Your baby is NEVER too old for me to capture beautiful images.  For the curled and gently posed images as shown in my newborn portfolio I recommend somewhere between day 7-18 of baby’s life BUT sometimes that time frame doesn’t happen.  And that’s OKAY!  Different circumstances might have us meeting later then that time frame and DON’T worry.  I promise you, I can deliver a beautiful gallery to you no matter how many days old your newborn is.

How do I book with you?

Simply fill out the contact form and I will be in touch within a day or two!  I am currently booking WINTER 2018-2019 sessions.

Should I bring anything to the shoot?

Upon booking, I will send a detailed guide to tell you exactly what to expect and what to bring.  I recommend bringing your wedding bands and a special knit lovie or handmade blanket if you have one.  I love to incorporate the same knit blanket throughout baby’s first year sessions too.
