Meet sweet little Winnie.  This baby girl did not take her eyes off of her mama the entire length of the session and followed her around the room where ever she went.  She had the most gentle disposition and I loved every second I spent with her.  We documented her five month milestone during this session and I was able to capture her moving about, rolling over, and during tummy time.  I absolutely loved this studio baby session in Homer Glen IL studio and hope you do too!

The months after your baby is born go by in a blur sometimes and I always recommend to parents to come in sometime between 3-5 months old to capture their baby’s newest milestones.  Sucking on fingers and toes, rolling over, tummy time, smiling and responding to facial expressions are all so adorable to capture.  Scroll below to find some posing tips for non sitters!

Posing tips for non sitters

I am often times asked by fellow photographers how to pose babies that aren’t sitting up completely and my answer is simple!  Treat them as though they are a shorter newborn session.  Posing should be kept simple and focused on capturing small little details!

1. Keep the set up simple using only one or two outfits.  My most favorite milestone session outfits are those where baby is wearing nothing but a simple white diaper or onsie.  There is something so timeless about a baby rolling around in a pure white short sleeve onsie.  I also love to use patterned swaddle blankets.  These adorable ones are from Margaux and Mae.  In fact, you’ll see sweet some of these sweet images of Winnie on the front page of their website!
2. Poses should be kept simple and focused on capturing facial expressions and small details!  Chubby baby thighs, dimple hands, cute hair curls are all great details to capture for parents!
3. Explore your angles!  One of my FAVORITE poses is from overhead while the baby is on their tummy!  Their cute little side rolls are so sweet and are a favorite parents love to remember!
4. I absolutely love singing sweet lullabies to my babies as I am posing.  My voice is absolutely awful but it brings a calmness to the room during the sessions.  When babies trust you and relax you can capture those precious smiles, giggles, and facial expressions.
