Capturing milestones

I can’t believe this sweet girl is already nine months old!  It seems like yesterday I was photographing her newborn session.  I love capturing milestones throughout baby’s firsts year and I’m so lucky to be apart of this girls year.

When is the best time to schedule milestone sessions?

I always recommend scheduling baby sessions around four months old, seven months old, nine months old, and eleven and a half months old.  In my experience, these are the best times for capturing milestones.

Around four months of age, baby starts to roll over and are able to hold their heads up longer during tummy time.  They smile easily, kick their feet, and even start to grasp toys.  This increases the variation in your gallery as well as allows the photographer to document these amazing changes.

Sitter sessions are taken when babies are closer to 7 months old.  At seven months, babies typically sit up completely unsupported and sometimes even push into a plank position.  Sitting up unsupported without toppling over makes the session much safer for baby and allows for quite a few more poses.

At nine months old, babies are very interactive and mobile.  They love to push up into plank position, crawl, pull themselves up on stools and chairs, and roll around.  You can get a great gallery of images with this age and I just love how their personalities really start to shine.

First Birthday sessions are really great to capture around eleven and a half months old.  This allows for baby to showcase their ‘toddling’ stage, pulling up on furniture, walking along the walls, and sometimes show their first steps.  I love capturing these photos a couple of weeks before their actual birthday so parents are able to use the images for their birthday party!  Creating a photo display is one of my favorite things to offer my milestone clients at the end of their year with me.
