Last year I had the privilege of having the most incredible beach photos taken of my family while on vacation in Florida. It was a dream come true and I remember that evening with my family like it was yesterday. I wanted to offer beach sessions to my clients but living in the midwest makes it difficult to find open beaches. But this summer, a friend of ours offered us their private location for an Indiana dunes beach session. This exclusive location has the most breathtaking grasses, beautiful sand, and calm water which made our night absolutely perfect in every way. I am thrilled with how this session turned out and I can not wait to photograph many more families at this location. I will have access to this gorgeous beach spot next spring and summer and I can’t wait to start planning more beach sessions at the Dunes! I have been photographing this Frankfort family for years now, and watching their family grow has been such an honor. They are the perfect example of how important it is to take annual pictures. It is so easy to get lost in the day to day and when you are such a vital participant in your own family, it is difficult to recognize how quickly things change, spouses age and children grow. Most of the time, we can only look back and recognize how quickly everything went. Photos like these are the mile markers of your life. You will look back on them and remember the years’ triumphs and trials. Whether that be a year you moved into a new home, or when your youngest child finally lost all of their baby teeth. No matter how small the details seem at the time, they are so worth remembering. Think of these pictures as the new chapter page in the book that you are working so hard to make memorable.
Joanna and I have been friends since childhood. Years ago, when Joanna and I were running around, laughing and jumping with ease like her girls are now, I could have never imagined that our paths would lead us back here. I never would’ve thought I’d have the privilege of helping her document some of the moments that she will cherish forever, but that all seem to sail pass us all too quickly.
We have been dreaming of this shoot for her family of four for over a year. The effortless beauty of this family along with the natural and simple beauty of this setting truly made this shoot, stunning. Watching this family interact and love on one another is why I got into family photography in the first place. The beauty of the water paired with the neutral tones of the sand and clothing everyone wore really let this family and their contagious love for each shine through. Here are just a few of my favorite images from our time spent together. What a lovely evening.
This little girls dress is a beautiful ivory lace and a crocheted neckline and was absolutely perfect for a beach session.
Beach family photography sessions are always some of my favorite sessions throughout the year. Light weight, comfortable and flowing clothing options work best in this setting. The goal of the beach background is to let the calmness of the water highlight the beauty of your family. In this session, mom was wearing a dress from American Eagle and the little girl was wearing a beautiful ivory dress from Doll Cake. A full ‘what to wear guide’ is provided for every session and I will help you with clothing choices throughout the process!
